No sooner.....than নিয়ে যত সমস্যা

 আমাদের মধ্যে একটা বিভ্রান্তি আছে No sooner পরে শুধু had নাকি অন্যান্য auxiliary ও বসে?

অতীত কালের ঘটনা past tense বুঝালে No sooner had এবং No sooner দুটোই ব্যবহৃত হয়। 

No sooner had + Subject + past participle 

No sooner did + Subject + base form বসে। 

তবে বর্তমান কালের ঘটনা বুঝালে বা  present tense এ 

No sooner do/does + Subject + base form  ব্যবহৃত হয়। 

Past tense: 

Assertive: 

As soon as the thief saw the police, he ran away.

(যেই মাত্র চোরটি পুলিশ দেখল, সেই মাত্র সে পালিয়ে গেল)

Negative :

No sooner had the thief seen the police than he ran away.

Or, No sooner did the thief see the police than he ran away.

(পুলিশ দেখতে না দেখতেই চোরটি পালিয়ে গেল।)

Assertive: As soon as the teacher entered the classroom, the students stood up.

(যেইমাত্র শিক্ষক ক্লাসে প্রবেশ করল শিক্ষার্থীরা দাঁড়িয়ে গেল) 

Negative : No sooner had the teacher entered the classroom than the students stood up. 

Or, No sooner did the teacher enter the classroom than the students stood up. 

(শিক্ষক ক্লাসে প্রবেশ করতে না করতেই শিক্ষার্থীরা দাঁড়িয়ে গেল) 

Present Tense

Assertive  As soon as the teacher enters the classroom, the students stand up. [১৪তম শিক্ষক নিবন্ধন ২০১৭]

(যেই মাত্র শিক্ষক ক্লাসরুমে প্রবেশ করে, সেই মাত্র ছাত্ররা উঠে দাঁড়ায়)

Negative: No sooner does the teacher enter the classroom than the students stand up. 

(শিক্ষক ক্লাসে ঢুকতে না ঢুকতে ছাত্ররা উঠে দাঁড়ায়)

As soon as the teacher enters the classroom, the students stand up. (Negative)

A. No sooner does the teacher enter the classroom than the students stand up.

B. No sooner the teacher enters the classroom than the students stand up. 

C. No sooner had the teacher entered the classroom than the students stood up. 

D. The students stood up as the teacher entered the classroom. 

Ans:A 

প্রশ্নের affirmative বাক্যটি present tense এ আছে তাই negative বাক্যটি বা উত্তরও present tense এ হয়েছে। 

2. Complete the following sentence: [CU A 13-14]

  No sooner did the thief see the policeman ------

[চোরটি পুলিশ দেখতে না দেখতেই পালিয়ে গেল]

A. when he ran away 

B. he ran away 

C. than he ran away 

D. then he ran away

Ans:A, B 

তবে Modern grammar এ No sooner did + sub + base form এর ব্যবহার নেই বললেই চলে। 

4. Find the correct sentence. [DU B 21-22]

[পুলিশ চোরটাকে দেখতে না দেখতেই তারা তাকে তাড়া করা শুরু  করল]

A. No sooner had the police seen the thief than they started chasing him.

B. No sooner had the police seen the thief then they started chasing him.

C. No sooner did the police see the thief then they started chasing him.

D. No sooner the police had seen the thief they started chasing him.

Ans:A 

ব্যাক্যটির simple sentence হচ্ছে-

On seeing the thief, the police started chasing him.

বাক্যটির positive/assertive sentence হচ্ছে

As soon as the police saw the thief, they started chasing him.
